Because they are hardcore games.  CoD is one of the most competitive games as well along with Fifa.  Just because they are mainstream does not mean that they are not hardcore.

That is very opinionated.  Just because people play a few games doesn't make them any less hardcore.  Some people on COD has probably put more hours into that 1 game than some people has for 10+ games a year. Tell you what, go play a pro on CoD and tell me how that works for you.
