It's unfortunate he was elected in this particular time period. All the blame with rest with him, unfairly. Not the worst, but certainly not a good one.

In a time where the economy is/was teetering he felt the need to press for healthcare reform, gay rights, and other social issues as opposed to addressing the jobs situation. It isn't the job of the POTUS or the government to create jobs, but it is their duty to provide incentives for businesses to create them. One could argue, he and congress have done the exact opposite.

Futhermore, he has labeled the national debt as "no big deal." Why should that surprise me, he has maintained this bourgeois attitude throughout his tenure. Kicking the can down the road doesn't work. Address the disproportionate increase in outlays over the course of the past decade as compared to revenues.
