If the 360 ends up at $99, does the PS3 eventually surpass it in sales?

Try going into a Best Buy, Walmart, or TRU store and seeing any kind of advertisement for that deal. I know I sure haven't seen one. Furthermore it's not available at all retailers and requires a credit check/2 year contract.

Not even remotely close to just strolling into a store and asking the clerk to grab you a $99 Xbox.

It's an old promotion that at the time was pretty well advertized. Of course a no catch $99 system would do better, but it's somewhat already been tried.

No, it has not been tried. Not globally, not with every retailer, and its a hassle getting a credit check/ filling out forms as opposed to just walking into a store and buying it for $99 and thats it.
