If the 720 is really going to launch for $500 they either ramped up the hardware to compete further with Sony or Sony is going to be taking a major loss if they price the PS4 below $500.

The PS4 currently revealed specs would cost much more than the currently rumoured 720 specs.

Judging by what has been leaked about X720, both consoles have very similar specs.   Only the system memory on PS4 costs signicant more.

Also, MS plans to include Kinect 2 with every console sold. That's probably what is raising the price.

Sony will include their PSEyeKinect with every PS4 console. They also introduced a lot more technology in their controller this time around with the light bar, touchpad, etc. The GPU is also rumoured to be stronger in PS4 compared to 720.

So RAM, GPU, and basic controller will increase costs on PS4 compared to the 720.

That camera doesn't have kinect functionalities. So far Sony has only said it's a Stereo Camera, nothing more.

The controller has nothing really expensive in it.  How much a touchpad and a light bar can cost on these days ?

CPU for both consoles are pretty much the same.

The tech in Sony's PS4 Eye will be very similar in cost to the new Kinect 2.0. Where Sony's has 2 HD cameras and the 4 microphone array, plus a motorized tilt; Kinect 2.0 will have 1 HD camera, 1 Infrared one, same microphone array, with no motorized tilt.

I am sure a touchpad is going to add some cost. The light bar maybe not so much since it is just some LED's which are dirt cheap.

CPU is basically the same, yes, but the GPU in PS4 is better than the rumoured 720 GPU.

So again, PS4 will have RAM cost, GPU cost, and basic controller costs that are higher than MS. The only thing that may be more expensive on MS's side is the Kinect 2.0 by some small degree.
