Most games these days seem to prevent reviews from coming out until the day game is released or a few days at best before. So shouldn't the company already have all its advertisements and shit on the tv, online and so on already? So metacritic shoudlnt' be affecting sales at all. People should be interested in the game and be planning to buy the game based off of the advertising done on the games behalf before its release. |
while games are more frontloaded than ever, I still think a majority of sales for most games comes after the first week or two.

Which I believe is more word of mouth than any review site.
A game doesn't sell 6 months after it's release cause someone saw on metacritic that it is a 85. No it was most likely they heard their friends say its an awesome game or they saw it played somewhere.

not sure on that myself. I just see how metacritic can impact it, since many sales happen after reviews. If people really did not read these reviews there wouldn't be so many review sites out there. they would close due to lack of traffic, but there are tons, for every language and country, this leads me to believe that people do go to these sites and read their reviews. They may not hold as much weight as word of mouth, but people certainly read them.
