Are we talking developers or indie developers? (I'm going with indie developers) There is a major difference (that isn't really represented in the title.) I didn't read the whole OP, but I did skim, I also read the last few paragraphs in full.
Indie developers really do not push console sales. Sure, they are nice to have as a side option. But really, if you want your console to be successful, these types of developers aren't the oasis in the desert. Also, when did Nintendo become buddies with indie developers? It seems like this article paints that picture. (From what I read.)
