Only the LGA 2011 moterboard cost over $300... the CPU Sandy Bridge-E over $300... 4x modules DDR3 2400 ~$300.

MB + CPU + Memory = ~$1000

Damn that's a lot, just for those. But if I could afford it I probably would go all out too on mine.
