I have never had a dependable internet connection since I got internet in 2001 across continents and via dial-up, DSL, and cable so I never get how people act like always on is no big deal. I lived in metropolitan areas with millions population and still an issue. 2. I love playing game against people. Multi-player can be a joy. However, my experience online is those people are the minority or very quiet. What I experienced in my attempts are spam, gibberish and staggering amount of racist homophobic ignorant insults. So, commnities have been hard for me to find and until I ever belong to a decent one in a game that view will hold. (Online gaming experience has been action, shooter, simulation and sport titles) |
i also have a rather crappy interent connection but i still love online gaming, mostly in shooters like killzone and uncharted. i always mute everybody though and i dont have a mic to talk to people with anyways. for me its not finding a good community, but rather finding a well desgined game that is a lot of fun to play with other people

The joy, to me, in playing with others is the others as much as the playing. I love football (soccer) but if some...unpleasant folks wish to play I have no patience to be bothered wasting an afternoon being around them. I'd rather kick the ball around alone than deal with that scenario. So, in gaming if who I am interacting with might as well be a machine I have no reaction to winning or losing. I had massive Mario kart parties as a kid and the joy and adrenaline in those races and battles was great. Make it online and it'd just be some random people then I ask "what's the point in online play if it offers nothing I cannot get with AI"? Also, no lag or connection issues so its better actually.
