It's now 3 tranqs to cap a monster. Not sure if that changed from Tri, I do remember being confused whether or not I was missing because I always thought it was 2.

Anyway, I now always hit em with 2 before I even plant a trap. Too many times I've planted my one and only Shock Trap, get knocked down while planting/tranqing (from them charging, or by an add) after the monster already triggered the trap. Then the damn thing wears off just as I'm about to hit it with the 3rd tranq...

Nothing in this game makes me rage more

No, you hit them with the tranqs after they are in the trap.  I'm pretty sure that anything before that is wasting them.  It usually is two, but once in a while it seems to take three.  That hasn't changed as far as I remember.

Hitting them with tranq reduces their tranq "resist," I believe, it works like a status effect. If you hit them with two before the trap, it'll only take one more once you hit them with the trap. I do that because, well, like I mentioned earlier, there are circumstances where you can run out of trap time (Shock Trap duration is pretty short).

Actually, ever since I got thunderbugs from the trade dude (and farmed a round) I've capped everything I come across. Since I have Perception jewels it's way quicker than killing.

OH - one thing I just realized as of writing this. It takes me 3 tranqs to capture things because I'm using freaking Lag armor. Damnit. I figured that -status didn't effect me since I don't use any, guess I need to jewel that out of -10
