Considering Gears usually sells lots of millions week 1, I think from a prequel perspective, GOW:A is performing better.

Sony logic.

Selling less = performing better.

Judgement is not even made by the usual Gears guys.

As we've discussed before, this isn't entirely correct. Epic had a hand in the multiplayer portion. Besides, I doubt most buyers, in this case, would know who specifically developed what, making it a fairly moot point.

More importantly, neither of these two had particularly strong openings, but as prequels, you couldn't ask for/expect much more.

"had a hand" = irrelevant. It's like saying Infinity Ward helped with MW3. Eh.. whatever shell of a staff they had lefted might have "had a hand" in it but you could clearly tell the game was made by entirely different people. Judgement is no different. Only 1 Gears head I know bought the game, the rest passed on it because "Epic isn't making it".

The whole "prequel" angle is pretty overblown on this topic by some trying to justify disappointing Ascension sales. Maybe it's the simple matter of there being loads of games out on PS3/360 in both of these franchises already and you're talking about two full priced games that could have easily been DLC.
