I preordered the PS3 after E3 2006 here in Germany (on amazon), so I think it's very likely preorders are open after E3 (if they announce price and date and such, which in my opinion has a 99.999% chance of happening)

And how did that work? Did you have to pay any money in advance? Were you obligated to buy it at launch? Or could you just pre-order and then decide not to buy it without any punishment?

I really want to get the PS4 at launch but I don't want to stay in line physically outside a store because it would feel tiresome, nerve-wrecking and humiliating.

I didn't have to pay anything in advance and could cancel at any time - as a bonus I even got a game for free (I chose Motorstorm out of I think it was 4 different games). The money was charged when they sent the console and it was delivered on launch day.

damn I was already planning on using Amazon but with that system (I'm assuming they'll use basically the same thing in the US although maybe not a free game lol) I'll get 3 since I'll have plenty of money by Fall and sell 2 of my pre-orders on Ebay.  Just change the address for Amazon to ship to so I don't have to pay to ship the box and BAM!  Instacash!
