This is how more gamers need to think. However the only issue is that sometimes being a "Fanboy" is justified. It is not justified to call out a company for every little mistake and defend another companies massive ones.
I see myself, this generation, as a Sony and Nintendo fan. I don't bash the Xbox, but I have no reason to purchase it. All my 3rd party games are on my PC with mods and better visuals, and while I ADORE Halo, It isn't worth another $200 + Live, when PS offers Killzone, Resistance, Twisted Metal, God Of War, Infamous, and Uncharted, as well as Classics like Ratchet and Sly Cooper, and Zelda, Mario, Red Steel, Monster Hunter, and Metroid are on Wii U.
So yes, fanboys are closed minded and sad consumers, but just like having a preference over Battlefield Or Call Of Duty, some products just don't seem to live up to the others, and people have a right to explain why, so long as they stay reasonable.
I <3 Classic Platformers!
