Not surprised. Especially with handhelds, comparing new game numbers with older game numbers is becoming meaningless.
I like digital if it's cheap. It's so much easier and faster than changing discs all the time. If it's a new release at full price, though, I like to buy a disc so I can trade it. New releases account for a tiny portion of what I buy, though.
