Vita uses a standard Wi-Fi receiver/transmitter. To achieve the results Nintendo had with Wii U, they had to resort to special wireless hardware. It's simple, Vita's hardware was not made to do this, while Wii U has hardware designed from the beginning to support high-quality video streaming.
