All PS3s are backward compatible with PS2 software.

You can still go on PSN with a hacked console, things have moved a long way since only 3.55 firmware being available.

It's quite easy to avoid being banned on PSN with a hacked console if you look into it.  EDIT - deleted advice on how to do that, don't want to break rules here.
