exactly. Sony has provided the hardware and some software to help give devs what they need to do what they do (or should do) best and create great, new, experiences. I don't have to change my input to get a different output. Skyward Sword was no more innovative than Littlebigplanet yet the later uses a traditional input to facilitate that innovation. Even games that had motion this gen like Mario Galaxy didn't need it and their innovation was a result of what was on the disc rather than what was in my hands.
