Initially? Because the Taliban wouldn't hand over Osama Bin Laden after 9/11. We told them that any country that harbored Al Queda would be attacked. They didn't budge, and neither did we.

But that was over 10 years ago. Since the attacks on Tora Bora, we've been there "Nation building" - trying to keep the Taliban out of power. Its idiotic. We're getting no where, and costing lives and soldiers.

We've needed to be out of this war for at least 5 years.

Well they might as well invade Pakistan cause the Taliban there are destroying that country and the police/army there can't stop them. 

Why invade when we can just illegally send drones and strike teams all over the country without Pakistan's permission like we've been doing?

By only putting up verbal protests they've already sort of surrendered soverignty, no?

I mean the US government more or less acts like it owns the country already.
