did it change for nintendo or sony this gen? wouldn't third parties demand it of them too? I dont see why MS would be singled out for this or why there is reason to assume this when they haven't made any steps in this directon in the past.

We don't know yet about Sony, to be fair. They have those patents out there.


This is waht I find strange. Sony has the patent for RFID enabled BD-ROMs that get 'tagged' to a console and when asked about used games on PS4 give a very ambiguous answer about having discussions with publishers nobody bats an eyelid, but then comes an unconfirmed rumour about an MS console that doesn't even officially exist having mandatory installs and all of a sudden it's OMFG NO USED GAMES!!!1!!!!

But Sony already said their console plays used games. There are no recent rumors saying PS4 won't. Of course there may be discussions behidn the scenes about blocking used games and I'm sure they happened before the PS3 and 360 launches as well. Every time these rumors come up, whether they refer to PS or XBox, we complain about it being a bad idea and anti-consumer.

Chances are most PS4 games will have mandatory installs as well.

Otherwise Master Chief might just be returning Otacon's joke right back at the PS4.

But these rumors say there is no way to play an Xbox 720 games straight from the disc. Yes, many PS3 games have mandatory installs but these are PARTIAL. They dont' install the full game since that would take up way too much space. Yes, some PS4 games will probably have mandatory installs but they'll be partial just like on the PS3. So unless Microsoft provides a huge HDD then this is a bad idea.
