My main problem with LoL is the lack of punishment. So, not only this rewards bad plays but also don't make them learn from mistakes. Surely it is great when you are bad at the game, but in the long term it just isn't good for the competitivity.

LoL proves that a majority of players don't care about every game being super competitive. SC2 is like this and it's failed mostly. Pro games exist for us to see the competitive play, but for most people that just isn't the appeal of LoL and Dota is actually better for you.

I was around 420W/320L (and my average ping was 200ms), and every game I'd see some players doing some things so wrong that I just didn't understand how someone who played that much couldn't know.

Was this Ranked? If you're looking for competitivness then higher-ELO ranked is better than what you describe.

Oh, and paying to have an advantage surely didn't help me like it more.

You don't pay to have an advantage. By the time you hit Lv30 (300 games) and are eligible for ranked ladder, you will have enough IP to buy 3-4 champions and their full rune sets for two roles of five. A little more time commitment will get you the remaining roles. Sure if you want everything now you need to pay, but the people who have paid are not more powerful they just have more choices of champion or rune set.

Real world money isn't allowed to buy runes at any level.

Dota does have some stupid mechanics (creep blocking, pulling and stacking), but there are so many more in LoL.

Elaborate.
