Does sony own this developer? If not, then offcourse Sony can't impose deadlines. That would be just silly.

Yes they can. It's just like any other IT partnership. If deadlines are required to be met by the publisher/business that's funding a game/project, the developer/IT Shop will then determine if the deadlines are realistic before agreeing to them. If the developer/IT Shop misses some, several, or all of the agreed upon deadline, funding can pulled for the project by the publisher/business. It's pretty standard fare.

Well clearly Sony is the exception. Sony for example OWNS Polyphany Digital, and they seemed comfortable with delays, giving them all the time in the world. Another example being last guardian.

Sony just seems very "non chalante" about these things for some reason.

i think nintendo can be very forgiving of delays too.  the activisions and EAs of the world only care about the profitability of a game.  platform owners can profit from the game as well as the hardware sales driven by having a "killer ap" and in general are willing to be more non chalante about these things.

..it's kind of why i like first/second party games soo much.  i feel like you can really feel the extra "love" in their craftmanship.

anyhoo, i love heavy rain and really excited about beyond.  i'm happy to hear i'll have more to play from them.
