Yea that's fair enough. I haven't really played either in a while but if I was in a mood for some more serious game I would probably choose Dota and if I was in the mood for some more casual gaming I would go with LoL. They play differently enough that I think they need to be looked at as being more different than they are (just like you would say W-RPGs are different to J-RPGs despite them both being a kind of RPG).
