No that's using actual hardware in all cases, the US 80GB model had both the CPU and GPU of the PS2 in the PS3, the EU 60GB model had the GPU and emulated the CPU.
This emulator used for classics that can run basically all games as well as the EU 60GB model is completely emulation based. It measn ALL PS3s can run PS2 software, including slims.
I'm not that stupid, everyone knows about backward compatibility consoles lol.
