Well, at least that makes me have higher hopes that the game will release within the next five years *and* they might actually occasionally show gameplay at press events!

If I were being hopeful, I would also hope that they take the gameplay in a new direction. Turn based combat (and even the newer turn based combat like FFXIII had) is just outdated. In 1996 you couldn't have characters flip around and do awesome stuff, in 2013 you can. It just makes it so bad when you put something like, say, FFXIII and Uncharted next to each other where you're actually doing the crazy stuff.

I dont know... I think there's still a place in gaming for true turn-based games and I definitely wouldn't want to see them go the way of the dodo.  Makes me a little sad that the sales just don't justify the big-budget JRPG blockbusters like they used too.  FFX and DQVIII are among my top games of the last three generations (FFIV and Earthbound before that), and the thing that I like most about all of them is that they are strictly turn-based.  I think developers are taking the right steps to take out some of the frustrations for the general public - ie.  FFX, manually having to have Rikku steal from every enemy; FFXII, setting up a gambit to steal automatically.  Not having to consistently micro-manage all members of the party was a big step, but take too much out of the core system and you end up with FFXIII (which was panned for being so untraditional).

With all that said, I love Nomura and the Kingdom Hearts series, so if Versus does end up becoming FFXV I'm sure there will be plenty of oppurtunities for you to do some crazy awesome stuff.

There's a place for them, but not in your typical RPG.  Just like point and click will always be around, turn based games will always be around but they will never be what they once were and most of the fans of the genre will love it for nostalgia or other reasons.

For turn-based, it best belongs on asynchronous iOS type games and strategy games like FFTactics, but your traditional turn based RPG?  That style of game is just dead dead dead dead on consoles.
