this has been known since 07 when Eu ps3 played disk ps2 games w/o HW emulation

why is in not in the newer models my quess so sony can get easy $$ on psn from ps2 classics much like theyve done from ps home

EU 60GB BC PS3s still have the original GPU or CPU (it's missing one of them but has the other). US BC consoles have both (CPU + GPU of the PS2)

Slims etc don't have either.

It's not been working since '07 - This is a new thing since Sony added a proper fully working software emulator that PS2 classics use that makes no use of any legacy hardware at all...

Hence running on slims :)

was unaware of that its proably the gpu b/c it was the emotion enigine that eu ps3s didnt have

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-vs-ps2-classics-on-ps3

either way i and others who folowed this knew that it was possible, back in 09 hacked ps3s with cfw where playing ps2 games on the newer models

like others have said the reason its not a feature is so they can release all the HD colletions and ps2 classics on the store for $$

i dont thik it would really matter (more ps3 sales) this point in time and maybe even back then when sony axed ps2 b/c.  how many times have you had the urge to play ps2 games in the last 4-5 years?

I can state with absolute certainty PS2 games have not been running on slims ever before now except PSN "PS2 Classics".

Well I for one couldn't believe that FFX would work straight off the bat with no messing around, very surprised that Sony hasn't unlocked this emulator for all to use, there hasn't been that many PS2 Classics released that are that good, and even with the HD remakes, they add enough graphical upgrades I think for most people to still want to buy.

Not to mention some of those games cost more on the PS2 now anyway due to being rare.

Quite confusing.
