Look at sales of Final Fantasy this generation. If I had to describe it, I would say "The Fall of Final Fantasy". I'm sure Square Enix has noticed that the Final Fantasy has not only dimished in quality but in sales. They have to do something to turn this around and going back to what always made Final Fantasy games so hyped and successful is a great idea. I hope Final Fantasy is exclusive to PS4, at least the mainline games.

Isn't FFXIII, like, the 3rd or 4th best selling FF game of all time? It's by far the best selling JRPG this gen.

XIII sold well considering, but XIII-2 completely flopped and so will the upcoming LIghtning Returns.

The 360 and PS3 versions of FF13 couldn't outsell the PS2 version of Final Fantasy X. The Final Fantasy brand is on a downward spiral when it should be growing. It's multiplatform now yet it is actually struggling to match the sales of the PS2 games.

Well, for one, 360 + PS3 = PS2, as far as number of systems is concerned. Also, FFXII sold significantly less than FFX did, despite the PS2 userbase being even large when it was released. In light of that fact, FFIII's sales can be seen as a rebound of sorts.

XIII-2, on the other hand...well, FFX-2 sold just under 3mil less than FFX, so it's not all that surprising that XIII-2 moved less copies than XIII. I doubt the game could be called a flop, because, despite the fact that it sold a good 3mil less than it's predecessor, it's development costs were lower as well. Add to that the fact that FFXIII was seriously panned among fans, and it's actually kinda surprising that it sold as well as it did.

That said, Japanese sales for both games are a bit disappointing.
