| Dodece said: @booya There is no questioning that third party developers have a lot of reasons to not develop for the Wii U, but excuses in this case are like ammunition. Every bullet that Nintendo doesn't give to developers is another hit they don't have to needlessly take. For instance this choice on their part basically removes the possibility of them getting certain types of games for their platform. Massive Online games demand hard drive installs. Early next month Defiance is coming out for the PS3/360/PC. The game requires a mandatory install to play on the consoles. That install being 10GB, and since Nintendo doesn't have enough consoles on the market with the space to install the game. They probably stand no chance of even getting a delayed port of the title. If the situation weren't such Nintendo, and the players on the platform might have had a good chance at getting the game. They might even be getting many games in that genre. Sellers in that marketplace actually aren't all that picky. They just want as many users as possible. Branded peripherals really don't address the problem, because unfortunately as strange as it may sound. The fact that the console can function without one. Means that Nintendo could never assure developers that the tech had seen a serious upswing in adoption on the platform. All developers will understand is that the consoles don't come with them standard. It may have been a decision made in response to a dilemma, but it was a dilemma of their own making. Nintendo put too many of their eggs in one basket. It obviously made it hard to balance their platform, and their financial philosophy didn't make the issue any easier. Twenty Five to Thirty dollars more would have opened up a lot of doors. Even if those doors weren't typical console game providers. Believe it or not there are a lot of PC centric developers who might have gambled on the vacancies left by big name developers that weren't throwing their own development might behind the platform. |
It didn't stop Dragon Quest X from being on Wii and WiiU.(MMO)
Also defiance having a 10gb install and yet its still on 360, which means they are willing to make a game that forsakes some of the userbase, I don't see why the same conclusion can be drawn to the WiiU.
As far as ammunition goes for not deveoping on Nintendo consoles, 3rd parties will always have some reason to not develop, and hard drive space seems like a small issue compared to some of the other reasons they don't want to make games on WiiU.
I agree that putting a smaller HDD is an issue, but I think we disagree on the scale, I think it's a minor issue because they can always add larger HDDs later on in the lifecycle and so far and you can buy your own HDD if you like, the only thing Nintendo should do like I said is brand some Nintendo HDDs and sell them at retailers.
