The huge factors that they can confirm to help fan the hype flames or put a nail in their coffin.
1. Price : Personally I think 499$ is too much for a launch console for the majority of console purchasers, especially if their is no new media format to attach itself to, 399$ is better but seems very unlikely given the specs. SO depending on how they price it could go a long way.
2. Accessibility of used games: If they can confirm that used games will play on PS4 without additional costs, that will help the hype train along nicely. If they do allow 3rd parties to start charging to unlock used games, I don't know how people will react, seeing as no company has ever done it before.
3.Cost of online play: Going with a Xbox live gold approach seems possible for Sony seeing as how many social and online services they are proposing and seeing as how successful Xbox Live was this generation. If its free then add more fuel to the hype train.
So whenever they announce this stuff it could sway the hype either way, you could have a wet dream of 399$, all used games work and free online, or you could have the nail in the coffin of 499-599$, used games blockage, and paying for online, making it a much harder struggle to get early and mid gen adopters.
