you realize high def could just as easily be called better def right? High def is just a label for 720p and above. Like others have stated look at first gen games compared to other first gen games on a console not the last games on one compared to the first ones on another. MGS1 to MGS2 showed what PS2 could do. SM64 to Sunshine showed what GC could do. Halo 1 to Gears showed what 360 could do. These are the kind of comparisons to make.
