Arguably the 4th to 5th generation (SNES-N64) or the 6th to 7th generation (PS2-PS3) had much, much bigger leaps. These games will look nicer and run smoother, yes, but will it really be as big a leap from a gameplay perspective as 2D-3D or SD-HD? I really don't think so, and I don't expect anyone else does either.

Well, as I'm trying to convey, it may not be apparent to the average person, but the leap from the 7th-to-8th may actually be bigger than the PS2-to-PS3.

From a graphical and technological standpoint, I'd agree. But from a gameplay standpoint, I don't.

So it depends on which side and on what you consider "next-gen" to be.

Gameplay doesn't need to change, we've been playing games the same way for decades. What really matters are graphical and technical improvements. We will see better graphics, bigger worlds and better AI, these themselves will lead to better gameplay possibilities.
