I remember paying 30 bucks for a video games in the early 90's. Now they are double the cost but count in inflation and the spiraling expenses it takes to produce a game now. I think the video game industry is a relatively good bargain. It costs me 30 dollars for two tickets to the cinema and a bag of popcorn. As for the innovation, look at how much MS is spending just to have some original maps on GTA!!! Increased innovation is everywhere because Microsoft entered the ring.

Those "spiraling" expenses for games are caused by the consoles being overpowered and more difficult to program for. The higher prices of the consoles themselves doesn't help much. High price of consoles means less people will be willing and able to buy the console, coupled with higher prices to make the games, means the games prices have to be higher to support it, and then less people are going to be willing to pay for those games because they are more expensive. Movie ticket prices are really extreme (though it's usually $10 or so, and including popcorn isn't really fair), but I believe movies cost more to make... and the prices of DVDs are much lower than games.
