As for actual gameplay it's fantastic.

Yeah. I'm pretty surprised, actually. I didn't expect much more than a cheap Dynasty Warriors knockoff with ridiculous boobies. But the fundamentals are really, really good.

It actually reminds me a bit of a fighting game like BlazBlue, although not nearly as technical. It has perfect guard/countering, strong attacks for guard break, health sacrifice for limit break to counter combo stunlocks, special attack gauge, lots of varied combos especially if you consider the 3 forms each character has. The aerial combat is not bad either, although not as deep as in a Tales game.

Is it a 100% action game or has it got some RPG/esploration elements in it?

For "RPG/exploration elements" I mean fetures like in Dissidia, such as selecting special attacks, chosing equipment, some freedom in path selection...

You level up which increases stats, unlocks new combos, and passive boosts. In terms of equipping skills and gear, no. The only equipment is costumes and accessories which have no impact on combat, purely aesthetical. I don't know what you mean by path selection, but there's 4 schools each with their own decently long storyline, and 20 characters each with their own short side story. You can do these in whatever order you want, although the Homura team is locked until the other 3 schools are cleared unless you use the code I posted a bit back. There's no real map exploration either if that's what you mean.
