Because we have a saturated market for PS3. The kind of people that buys consoles only because of a single game already got a PS3. Now they are grabbing the ones that wait the consoles to get cheaper and for them the game library is the selling point, not a single game.
About the units moved by MH4, I don't think that it will be much bigger than 2 million unitsm and that isn't enough to change the game. Pokemon has a much bigger selling point. But MH sells around 4 million units each. Games like Gears and Uncharted sell much more and aren't considered massive sellers. If MH moves a lot of 3DS than COD will be a complete madness if we think that it sells 10 million with ease every year.
Anyway, 3DS will sell more for sure, unless PS3 gets:
- Massive price cut.
- Gran Turismo 6
- PS4/720 launched for higher prices than expected and PS360 keeping the sales momentum on Hollidays.
A combinations of at least 2 of them would give the year for PS3.
