You raise a good point.
Still, I think something needs to be done to ADB to allow full party control. A lot of people didn't like ADB in FFXII due to not being able to enter commands for all the characters.
My solution is just using the FFVI ATB template for ADB. Basically, just have the ATB system with seamless battles. When you see an enemy you want to fight, you press X to initiate the battle. The battle system menu then automatically comes up with ATB gauges for the all party members starting to fill. The command menu for each character comes up automatically when their ATB gauge is full. You then tell them what to do and after they do it, their ATB gauge resets and starts filling again for their next command. Also, you still have full control of the party leader movement at all times and can even switch party leader whenever you want.
It's the best of both, really. ATB traditionalists get their system back and forward thinking fans of ADB still get their seamless battles.
