He's wrong about the consoles, though. Nintendo took a loss with GameCube after cutting the price six months after launch to $149.

They only made $12 or slightly more on Wii at $250. So that barely contributed to profits. Wii profits were from selling Wii Remotes for $49 and nunchuks for $20 when they cost barely anything to produce. And from insanely high software sales with games that sold in the top 10/20 for three or more years while remaining at $49 (Mario Kart, Sports Resort, Galaxy, NSMB, Brawl, etc).

So Pachter has incorrect information about Nintendo's past and present profitability on their hardware, and since he's basing his opinion of their business model on that incorrect information, the conclusions he's drawing are also incorrect as a result.
