Graphics vs Music

I know I would be in the minority on this but I am one of those gamers that value music highly in video games maybe even more so than graphics. More and more these years I have seen music in video games take a backseat to everything else which, to me, is very sad to see. I see video game  designers talk about wanting to convey emotion in video games and make the player feel emotionally connected to the game they are playing. These video game designers believe they can do this through improved visuals creating "real" emotions on the characters face.

As video game player these emotions that developers strive so hard to create in their videogames are portrayed better through the music they put in their videogames rather than more realistic visuals. For example who remembers the first time they played megaman x and zero sacrifices himself and then the music kicks in that just makes you want to take out all of sigma robots, I guess many here wouldn't know what I am talking about, to me this brings about a greater emotional response just because if the music being played and not an ounce of emotion was shown on that low res pixel face of megaman.

Now it is true that given more graphical power that visuals plus the music can give more depth to it but. Truth be told video game directors are in no way movie directors. Now let me explain that for you, I (being myself) as human is technically capable of conveying all the emotions needed to be in say a movie, but I am not an actor and just because I am technically capable of doing it does not mean I will portray the emotions accurately or convincingly. The same goes for the makers of video games just because they are technically capable of doing it doesn't mean it will be done well. Unlike music in video games which are most of time done by actual music composers. For me most of the time when I am watching a cutscene in VG I feel like I am watching a saturday night Syfy channel movie, attack of the two headed shark kinda stuff, from the bad "acting" I see in the cutscenes and it greatly detracts from the game instead of improving the experience.

That's why I shudder when I see Quantic dream going on stage to talk about things they cannot possibly do properly no matter how hard they try.
