While this is possible, the problem is that the current consoles are so outdated that they themselves cannot even really run the current games. Far Cry 3 on consoles is constantly around 20-25 FPS, and BF3 is 24 players with smaller EVERYTHING. This generation has just gone on too long. I think a 6 year gen is far more reasonable.
