| Jay520 said: When you were "addicted", how many times per day did you masterbate and how much porn did you watch? I haven't noticed any serious harmful effects from porn or masterbation, and I masterbate fairly frequently. The only harmful effects of masterbation that I've experienced are sore forearms. Honesty though, I can't really remember the last time I wasn't masterbating every 1-3 days, so I don't have a clear period to make a comparison. I'll try to quit masterbating anyway, and not only for any physical or psychological benefits. While I do welcome some potention positive effects, I'm moreso interested in seeing how strong my will is. Almost every time I masterbate, it's because I wake up in the middle of the night with an erection. The erection usually leads to sexual thoughts which never go away. Eventually, my mind is overwhelmed by those sexual thoughts and I usually masterbate and go to sleep. I've always hated the fact that my body has been controlling my actions and I've been considering stopping masterbating for a while now. I guess this would now be a good time to start. I'll be starting a challenge for myself to see how long I can go without giving in to my desires. Days without masterbation: 0 days |
For a little while, it was a couple of times a day, but it eventually got to the point where it would take me an hour of porn just to get aroused and another hour after that of more porn before I finished off, and I went down to once a day. But I would also be looking forward to getting home and masturbating during the day; even after I finished, I couldn't wait until I was ready to go again.
It doesn't sound like you're in nearly as deep as I was, and so the positive effects might not be nearly as dramatic. I was using it as an escape from all the stuff I didn't want to deal with, and for a while, it was basically the only thing I ever really looked forward to. However, I've been wanting to quit for a very long time for largely the same reason; I always hated that I was unable to just quit. I felt like I should be able to walk away but I never could.
Best of luck!
blkfish; You're not alone in that. Have you considered trying to stop again?
Mr Khan; Definitely. I'm not arguing that masturbation itself is wrong, but I was abusing it. I'm stopping completely though, because I don't want to tempt myself into falling back into my old habits. Also, I'd much rather only do it when I don't even need to fantasize. I hate objectifying women like that.
Galaki; Very true. I think that porn addiction is a big problem though, because many people don't seem to realize that it can be an addiction. I'd never argue for a ban of porn or masturbation, however.
