I'm not saying it hasn't raised money. I'm saying that modern game budgets are very much higher than the $1-4m a Kickstarter can raise, and that the games you see are either cutting corners (being a 90s isometric RPG definitely helps), have alternative sources of funding (such as post-release sales or VC funding) in which case Kickstarter is more of a publicity tool or capital investment test case.
A Valve hardware project will be $50m easily. Which itself is far cheaper than say a PS4, but still very much out of reach of a Kickstarter.
Ouya's a plastic box with a prebuilt ARM SoC. Even then I very much doubt the thing can be done on $8m alone. They are expecting post release sales of a few times that I'm sure.
