It's because Nintendo does certain games that really nobody else does, and they do them really well. Take NSMB for example, it's (i.m.o.) hands down the best 2d platforming available, and nobody else really focus's on that particular genre full force the way Nintendo does, so it's the best game of it's genre until they release a new one. Same with Kart, same with Smash.


Compare that to say the FPS's genre, they are for the most part all pretty similar, and there is a new one on the shelf every time you turn around. By default, the newest one just takes over where the last one left off.

It basically boils down to quality over quantity.
