You really don't understand this...
It's not a chip, it's a bank of EDRAM - notice how it has the acronym RAM in it. It basically provides a very, very high speed framebuffer that allows the Xenos to do things like AA without a speed penalty.
It's far from useless and it gives the Xenos a big advantage over the RSX. This is why many PS3 games have no AA whereas every 360 game has 4x AA.
I was playing with my TVs and seeing AA.
Unless I'm sitting 2 feet from my screen I barely notice it.
Unless I'm sitting 4 feet. I have to stop moveing and start looking.
Unless I'm sitting 5 feet... I cant see any jaggies.
