Don't feel safe because you are already discounting Nintendo's attempt at attracting the hardcore gamers just because they are focusing, early on on the casuals and nongaming demographic. Thier whole strategy is to rack in overwhelming numbers with the casuals and nongamers and once that is set and done, the software will come in. Hardcores will have no choice but to get a Wii because most of the good games are going to be coming out for it.
Like what the DS is doing now. It started with Brain Training and Nintendogs. Then it got Dragon Quest IX :)
Go back and re-read my post. Jesus, I specifically mentioned that "for the sake of argument", aiming squarely at the Sony and Microsoft fanboys (you know who they are). Nobody is discounting anything.
However, if the Nintendo camp start getting all touchy because of a hypothetical scenario that I suggested, then I guess I'll have to start including them into the mix.
I bought a Wii specifically because I wanted my non-gamer friends, relatives, lovers, pets and occasional hobbit to get into gaming, which is what Nintendo wanted. I want people to share the love of gaming. The first DS game I bought was Brain Age, and the last one I passed as Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime. How am I disaggreeing?
Finally, you yourself corroborate what I said in my hypothetical scenario: "Thier whole strategy is to rack in overwhelming numbers with the casuals and nongamers
- I place emphasis on your their whole strategy is to rack in overwhelming numbers with the casuals and nongamers" - if that isn't an attempt to segment the market (irrespective of what they do afterwards), then I don't know what is. So thanks for arguing for nothing, since you agree with me. :)
