Yeah you're right dude. Call of Duty hasn't been selling millions of copies per game for over a decade. Neither has Halo. Neither has Grand Theft Auto. Neither has Gears of War. Neither has God of War. Neither has Pokemon. Neither has Monster Hunter. Or Final Fantsy. Or Dragon's Quest. Or FIFA. Or Madden. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
You're right, you TOTALLY can't go off of history and historic trends to judge how a series will "keep up".
And comparing gaming to film? Saying "Going from Attack of the 50 Foot Woman to The Godfather"..........REALLY? Do you just not have any sense whatsoever for film history, or are you trolling? Some of the greatest films ever made, to this day, meaning best acting, best writing, best cinematography, film score, you name it, are from the "black and white era". The only valid point to be made in comparing the two mediums, is that gaming is certainly following a parallel path as film is, in the sense that they're both becoming a LOT more about graphics and flash instead of actual gameplay and substance. If Heavy Rain is the future of gaming, as you say, then it is a bleak future indeed. Have fun with your overpriced console and your playable film Quick-Time-Events. Me? I'm just fine playing actual video games.
