Busted on 01 March 2013
A great story is like an extra gas tank, you don't actually need it that much but if you have it you can go a lot further. Particularly to me, the story (and/or script) is the most important part of a videogame, a game that for me would be mediocre at best can instantly become a masterpiece (.hack//G.U. trilogy) and a game that could have been better becomes mediocre at best (Final Fantasy XIII) just because of the story.
