Dmick90 said: That article is definitely biased, the PS3 is still losing to Microsoft and Nintendo in worldwide sales. There aren't official numbers for units sold yet. Don't understand why people are touting Sony's 77 million consoles shipped number, that's SHIPPED not sold! Microsoft still has a huge lead in software sales, and whoever leads in software is winning in hardware. Sony didn't force anybody to do anything, but they did influence Nintendo and Microsoft in some ways. Just like Nintendo and Microsoft influenced Sony, it's called competition. These kind of articles aggravate me because people act like Sony can do no wrong. The PS3 almost bankrupted Sony and the PS4 unveiling just seemed like a desperate attempt for Sony to try to stay relevant, people have moved on... Sony is not as strong a brand that it once was, and people need to get real. |
How was the ps4 reveal desperate? It's called introducing your next console and they wanted to not let ms have a head start this time. They showed games and detailed specs just like at e3 2005 only with more games.

"They wanted to not let ms have a head start this time." Exactly, when Sony heard that MS was launching the 720 soon, they didn't want to be left behind again, so they reveal the PS4 out of desperation to try to rehash the Sony of yore. Sony is like the lonely forgotten child that's flailing his arms and yearns for attention.

Of course Sony doesn't want to give Microsoft a head start again. They gave Microsoft a year headstart this gen (not to mention the massive pricetag) and have been playing catch up since. It would be the excact same thing if Microsoft let Sony have a free year on the market.
You are living in delusions if you think the Playstation brand is or should be forgotten. It's still a powerful force in the industry. Nobody here said anything about Sony doing no wrong, most Playstation fans know the PS3 had a really bad launch and was handled pretty poorly at the beginning. The PS4 has been in development for about 5 years now. It's likely both Sony and Microsoft are near the end of development and nothing said or announced this far along can be seen as a move of desperation.
I like how you say "it's competition" then call Sony a "lonely forgotten child that's flailing his arms and yearns for attention". It's apparent you'd like to see Sony out of the hardware business. Think of how much the competition would suffer if Sony disappeared. What does "rehash the Sony of yore" mean? You mean selling the most consoles ASWELL as having a large library of games? Uhm yeah, isn't that every console makers wish? It certainly should be.
The hate in you is powerful indeed.

I think its a testament to how strong their brand is because yes they were arrogant, had TERRIBLE MARKETING (still not too good but hopefully the new team changes that), no system sellers, a HORRDENDOUSLY high price tag, and were a year late. You know what that resulted in? What will be over 90 million consoles sold this gen. That demonstrates a power that neither of the other 2 has. If they eliminate just a couple of those errors they should have another huge system on their hands (which compared to other manufacturers the ps3 would be). If Nintendo or Microsoft made the price, games, and late errors they had at the beginning of this gen they would not have sold 70 million consoles by now. That is the true test of a brand. You do everything to keep yourself from succeeding and still find success. That being said let's hope for a $400 system lol

I'm just glad Sony seems to have learned from those mistakes. Their conference as well as the attitude of the PS4 seems a lot more humble, and in essense they admitted to having made mistakes with the cell, which lead to difficulty for developers. I think this gen has knocked that arrogance out of them haha.
Hopefully we will see a much wiser, and more aggressive Sony this upcomming gen. That price would also be lovely :D Though, i'm expecting it to be a tad bit pricier. Just gotta wait and see!
