Right, like I said... that's the problem though.  Right now you have a lot of pent up "good marriage" demand.  So you would expect divorce rates to naturally be lower.    Really "accurate" Numbers wont be gotten for a good 15-20 years... and honestly, by then hopefully they'll be the same only because people will be more accepting of such relationships.

As for Woman/Woman marriages i'm not that surprised.   Domestic violence committed by women is lower, but violence by women is on the rise.  Add in the added stress of homophobia, the added stress of finding a new mate with like 1/10th the dating pool, greater feelings of isolation vs society... 

Yes, I know of same sex couples that have been together over 30 and 40 years that go married.  And a few together over 50 that did not.

But then there were also same sex couples that ran out an got married just because it became legal.  So there is that 'lets do it cause we can Vegas impulse' and I don't know how many of them are successes.  They weren’t all long term couples.

But I know the toll of not knowing if your marriage is legal or not has weighted heavily on many California couples and their families.  It has been so cruel what ‘the National Organization for Marriage’ and other have done to them, their families, and their children by tring to take away that right and their marriages.

My parents marriage (As would have Obama’s) would have been illegal in California because of the laws banning inter race marriages at the time. I really would have not liked that growing up.

 

And THAT Is what pisses me off the most about the current gay marriage stance of "It's a state issue."

There is a lot... and I mean... a LOT I see as state issues.

This REALLY isn't fucking one of them.  I'd like to ask Dick Cheney, Obama and the rest who take that stance "Do you think interracial marriage is a state's issue?"

Although it's highly unlikely, i'm hoping the Supreme Court might act uncharacteristically and not only strike down DOMA but legalize gay marriage nationally.

It only seems to make sense when you consider the ruling on interracial marriage.

 

It goes to show just how quickly things change that it looks like most Californians are for gay marriage now.  It makes me hopeful that things will change faster then I expect.
