Yep. Military Tech on the other hand is one of the few things we DON'T want to cut.
Fighter vs Fighter combat isn't as used anymore.... however, for example it's not similar to say... why we don't use swords anymore. (invention of the gun.)
Fighter vs Fighter combat hasn't been particularly meaningful in modern combat because modern combat hasn't been faught among peers but of nations with superior air power fightng nations with almost none.
Stopping the development of more powerful weapons like this only makes sense if we assume we will NEVER be in another war with a military powerhouse. That seems like a pretty poor gamble to me.
