Sony has on many occasions over exaggerated the power of their systems to get the hpye machines going as to undermine their competition. They also in the days on the PS1 & PS2 would hire secret shoppers to go into video game stores (Electronic Boutique, Funco Land, Babbage's etc) and ask about products that were competition to the Sony systems. If the employee would talk up the Sony product more and try to get the customer to switch, that employee had a chance to win something. A friend of mine was the store manager of a Electronic Boutique, and he told me about it. The employees were aware of the secret shoppers, but didn't know who they were, so anyone that would come in asking about the Saturn, N64, Dreamcast etc, the employee would try to push the Sony system instead.... Just slime ball type of stuff like that. I have still purchased all the Sony systems as I buy ALL the systems, but as a company, Sony kind of sucks.
