There will be no price drop. Sony has only raised the price and they have years of bleeding money to make up. IF the PS4 makes it out this year in any reasonable quantities, it will be be at a considerable markup. They will control demand with higher prices (more profits) and this higher price will attempt to make the PS3 look like a good deal.

PS4 - $449-$559 and available in very limited quantities.
PS3 - $270+ and available everywhere including some good black Friday deals.

Why is it that there are a hundred threads pondering whether the sale of used games will kill the industry and then people tu

While this does make sense, look at how many big games are out this year. 3 games sold per new console, shit even one controller sold, will make up a price drop of 30$, say 219$.

The question is, are the current sales plus game sales profit greater than increased console sales plus increased game sales? Consider that there are 6 big multiplat titles this year, and a similarly priced console could help secure those new customers and corresponding licensing fees.

Plus, it's media attention, which is hugely important at the moment.
