His mistake is in comparing raw specs and guts in the console to what you can get on a PC. Hardware in a console is not the same as hardware in a PC, developers on consoles have pretty much direct access to the entire power of the hardware and they are not designed the same way.

Can you get that exact same setup as a PS4 in a PC? No, it's not possible. Can you get other things to accomplish the same performance? Yes. It just won't do it the way a PS4 (or any console) does.

Outdated thinking. Your idea was true when consoles basically ONLY played games. Consoles are getting more like PC's in that they perform many functions and have a larger OS running in the background. The hardware has to perform so many more tasks nowadays, so that console performance leap from lower specs just ain't gonna happen like it did in the good old days, when consoles JUST played games. Yes there is a performance boost, but it's getting smaller and smaller.

No the idea is still right, which lots of people pointed out to the author of that article and why he had to try and save face by essentially posting a retraction later. You can't compare a PC vs a console by specs. The console is optimized and streamlined in a way that the PC will never be. That's how a console can ship with half a GB of RAM and still run Battlefield 3. Not comparable to a PC, where that isn't even enough RAM to run an OS.

A PC doesn't need to be designed the same way with the same architecture. In fact it cannot be designed the same way. But relying on the raw power of ever-improving components, PC's will always stay ahead.
