What is the big deal about E3?

I haven't payed attention to e3 for years now. I personally don't know what the big deal is either. Yet some people keep saying MEGATONS!!!! And MELTDOWNS!!!! There is NOTHING e3 will show me that would make me meltdown. I cant say that about others though.
